Chiang Mai Songkran FestivalEach year on mid-April, there is an important event on the Buddhist calendar which Thais are always expecting for the whole year – Songkran Festival, the New Year celebration of Thailand. An atmosphere of the soaked battlefield of the water splashing in the city during a hot summer breeze of the year decorates Chiang Mai with full of joys and happiness. The festival warms this long holiday into a great time of a family reunited, celebrating with love and chatting after haven’t seen each other for the whole year. Being considered as the hot spot of Songkran Festival, Chiang Mai draws people from all over the country and many tourists from all over the world to be a part of this joyful festival for its unique custom and traditional one.

Songkran Kad Suan Keaw

On 12th – 15th of Chiang Mai Songkran Festival, all routes along a moat will be jammed with pick-up trucks and crowd throwing water side to side of the road. As the festival begins, the moat turns into a swimming pool where people hunt for victims to soak and get them as wet as possible! The hot spot of the water fight is around Chiang Mai’s moat which is like a chaos for those who want something challenging and exciting! For those who want entertainments, there are many gangs of teenagers gathered in front of the Kad Suan Keaw shopping mall which the free foam live concert waits for you to rock out! Also, Tha Pae Road will be the hot spot of water fight to chill out for those who are away from hustle and bustle.

Be warned, the road accidents are occurred as the highest annual record during this festival and those accidents were found to have a high alcohol levels.
So, considering “No Alcohol” during the Songkran Festival – safety will ensure your life and water splashing will refresh hot sweats off to enjoy your days on this auspicious event!
